How the Calculation Works
The tool parses names from lines or commas, shuffles the list, then deals entries across the chosen number of teams. When the group does not divide evenly, the first teams receive one extra member. Choosing a team size creates enough teams to include everyone, so the final team may be smaller.
Names are processed in your browser and are not saved by this site. Random assignment does not balance by skill, role, or other criteria.
Worked Example
With 10 names and 3 teams, the generator creates teams of 4, 3, and 3. With a target team size of 4, it creates 3 teams and distributes all 10 names, producing the same 4/3/3 split.
How to Use This Calculator
For a useful draw: Enter each participant once and choose either the number of teams or people per team. Use custom team names if helpful. The random shuffle does not account for experience, availability, or existing relationships; adjust the result manually if those factors matter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will every team have exactly the same number of people?
Only when the participant count divides evenly by the number of teams. Otherwise, team sizes differ by at most one person.
How does team size mode work?
It creates enough teams to accommodate everyone at the chosen maximum size. Any remainder is placed in a smaller final team.
Does it make skill-balanced teams?
No. Names are shuffled randomly without skill, role, or other participant information.
